FileTek Customer Wins Prestigious Pilgrim Trust Preservation Award for Its Innovative Digital Archive
Rockville, MD (July 8, 2004) - FileTek, Inc., a data access and management software company, today announced that one of its showcase customers, The National Archives of the United Kingdom, recently won the first annual Digital Preservation Award for its Digital Archive system. Powered by FileTek's StorHouse® data management software, the Digital Archive saves vital Government electronic records, including public enquiries, e-mails, databases, and web pages, for commercial, government, academic, and public use in perpetuity. Sponsored by the Digital Preservation Coalition, the prestigious Pilgrim Trust Digital Preservation Award honors innovative and creative strategies for preserving critical digital information.
The award-winning Digital Archive consists of FileTek's proven StorHouse software for managing the growing data repository and a front-end application written by Tessella Support Services plc. The solution uses FileTek's StorHouse/RFS, a highly scalable file system interface specifically designed to archive and retrieve large quantities of fixed content data such as that processed by The National Archives. StorHouse/RFS groups the information written by the Tessella application into containers, or collections, and writes them to StorHouse for subsequent access. StorHouse/RFS uniquely enables the Digital Archive to scale to 100s of terabytes and beyond by tracking file locator information with an internal relational database that is never limited by file system constraints
On hearing about the award, William C. Thompson, FileTek's president and CEO, commented, "My congratulations to The National Archives on this milestone achievement. I am especially proud that FileTek is a key player in this customer success story. The Digital Preservation Award acknowledges just how capably and effectively StorHouse manages, preserves, and protects large data repositories. Built on reliability, accessibility, and scalability, StorHouse is well-positioned to support future archive growth and expansion."
