William P. Loomis, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Loomis has over 30 years’ experience in high technology finance, management, and operations. He joined FileTek in 1987 and was elected Chief Executive Officer in March 2007. He has been a member of FileTek's Board of Directors since June 2003. Mr. Loomis was FileTek's Chief Operating Officer from January 2001 through March 2007. Mr. Loomis has also been FileTek’s Chief Financial Officer since July 1990. In addition, he has been Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Centennial Computer Corporation, a specialized financial services company for the computer hardware and software industries. Prior to Centennial, he was with the public accounting firm of Ernst and Young. In June 2006, Mr. Loomis was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Clearview Software, a company specializing in enterprise content management solutions. He has been a member of the Clearview Board of Directors since May 2006. Mr. Loomis, a Certified Public Accountant and an Elijah Watts Sells National Award Winner, holds a B.S. in Business Administration (magna cum laude) from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. from Virginia Tech. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, he serves on a number of committees and boards for technology councils and professional and academic organizations.
Gary G. Szukalski, President and Chief Marketing Officer. As President and Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Szukalski is responsible for FileTek’s day-to-day operation. More importantly, he is the chief evangelist of FileTek’s outbound message and vision. He has over 25 years of experience in the computer industry, including executive management positions in sales, marketing, and development. Mr. Szukalski rejoined FileTek in January 2009 after a 9-year absence. During that time, he was Vice President of Demand and Field Marketing for Verity, a computer search software company. In December of 2005, Verity was acquired by Autonomy, a worldwide leader in pan-enterprise search and meaning-based computing. At Autonomy, Mr. Szukalski was Vice President of Field Marketing, where he designed and developed creative marketing campaigns and directed sales support efforts for sales enablement, event execution, and lead generation. Prior to leaving FileTek in September 2000, Mr. Szukalski held numerous positions of increasing management responsibility, the last being Vice President of North American Sales Operations. His initial professional experience was with EDS and General Electric Information Systems as a systems programmer. Mr. Szukalski holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Shippensburg University.
John G. Burgess – Cofounder and Vice President – Technology. Mr. Burgess is responsible for advanced technology assessment at FileTek. He has been with the company since its inception in May 1984. Prior to joining FileTek, Mr. Burgess was Vice President of Development for Centennial Computer Corporation and Vice President of Development for Tesdata Systems Corporation, a performance management company. He also held various technical management positions at Control Data Corporation. Mr. Burgess has over 40 years’ experience in the computer industry. He holds a BSEE degree from Virginia Tech.
Mark Croson, Vice President – Customer Support. As Vice President of Customer Support, Mr. Croson’s primary responsibilities include day-to-day operation of the FileTek Customer Support organization and ensuring that FileTek customers receive superior technical support and customer service. He has over 30 years’ experience supporting and managing high-end data processing systems. He joined FileTek in 1996 as Customer Support Field Operations Manager and was promoted to Director of Customer Support in 2001. Mr. Croson was promoted to Vice President of Customer Support in 2008. Mr. Croson has extensive experience in large system support, data center operations, business management, and customer service. He has held technical and management positions at Storage Technology Corporation, Citicorp, Memorex Telex Corporation, Federal Systems Group, and Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services. Mr. Croson holds a technology degree from Control Data Institute.
James D. Ewing, Vice President – Storage Systems Development. As Vice President of Storage Systems Development, Mr. Ewing is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the FileTek development and engineering organizations. He has over 40 years’ of experience in the computer industry, including technical and management positions in programming, data center operations, and software development. Mr. Ewing joined FileTek the first year after its founding as a senior software developer. During his tenure at FileTek, he has been a direct technical contributor to and manager of FileTek software development projects, including its mainframe interface for data storage products and its relational database product. In addition, Mr. Ewing is listed as one of the inventors on a key FileTek patent. Prior to his appointment as Vice President, Mr. Ewing was named manager for all storage product software development. Before joining FileTek, Mr. Ewing held a number of positions of increasing technical and management responsibility, including software product manager and data center director for EDS, system programmer and systems programming manager for a computer service bureau, and software developer and analyst for a government contractor and a university computer center. Mr. Ewing holds a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University and an M.S. in Computer Science from The University of Iowa.
Diamond Lauffin, Vice President – Channel Development. Mr. Lauffin joined FileTek in November 2007. He is the CEO of The Lauffin Group, a business development company, which he founded in October 2006. From January 2001 through October 2006, he was Senior Executive Vice President of Nexsan Technologies, a computer disk storage manufacturing company, where he oversaw sales and business development. As the co-founder of Nexsan North America, he is credited with introducing and evangelizing the concept of Enterprise Class ATA/SATA and D2D backup utilizing ATA technology. Prior to joining Nexsan, Mr. Lauffin was responsible for worldwide sales and market development at Qualstar Corporation, a manufacturer of tape libraries for data storage backup.
While at Qualstar Mr. Lauffin was recognized for developing a unique approach to supporting and managing an indirect sales channel utilizing VARs and system integrators. His sales model provided a key component for the successful completion of the Qualstar IPO. Mr. Lauffin then took his proven model and established it as the foundation for launching the development of the Nexsan Technologies System Integrator and VAR channel development program worldwide.
Sias Oosthuizen, Vice President – Solutions, EMEA. As Vice President of Solutions, EMEA, Mr. Oosthuizen is responsible for supporting strategic alliances and partnerships in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa as well as sales and channel support. He has over 25 years of technical, applications, and business experience in information technology. Mr. Oosthuizen joined FileTek in October 1998 and was promoted to Vice President of Solutions, EMEA in March 2007. At FileTek, his roles have included pre- and post-sales technical consultancy specializing in all aspects of data archiving and information lifecycle management for all types of application and system data. Previous to joining FileTek, he held a number of systems engineering and systems programming positions at various companies, including Comparex, a data center solutions and services company, and Old Mutual, an insurance company. Mr. Oosthuizen holds an MSc degree in Computing for Commerce and Industry with special interest in Data Warehousing and Relational Database Archiving.
Michael Smith, General Manager – Trusted Edge Products Group. Mr. Smith has over 15 years’ experience in managing high technology companies. He joined FileTek in May of 2007 soon after the company acquired the assets of Trusted Edge. Prior to joining FileTek, Mr. Smith provided management consulting services to technology companies in areas such as business development, operations, finance, and corporate governance. Prior to consulting, Mr. Smith served as President and Chief Financial Officer of Elgin Technologies, a manufacturer of specialty power supplies for the telecommunications and commercial lighting sectors. Mr. Smith has previously served on the Board of Directors for the following companies: Treev, Inc. (acquired by Metavante), Elgin Technologies, Inc., and Maxoptix Corporation. He received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Akron.
Charles Whinney, Vice President – North American Sales. Mr. Whinney joined FileTek in November 1998. He was promoted to Vice President of North American Sales in February 2005. From December 1985 to November 1998, he held a variety of sales and account management positions with NCR and its predecessor Teradata, a database computer company. Previous to NCR/Teradata, he held a number of sales, sales management, marketing, systems engineering, and programming positions at Amdahl, a computer mainframe company.
