Storage Machine Concepts and Operations
Duration: 1 day
This course is a prerequisite for all Storage Machine courses. It covers the fundamentals of Storage Machine hardware and software, basic concepts of multi-level storage management, and SM command syntax. It explains how to perform operator tasks and how to use the SM command language. This course includes hands-on exercises.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the students will:
- Identify Storage Machine hardware components
- Understand the use of multi-level storage management
- Sign on and off the Storage Machine software using the SM console or host interface
- Perform daily SM operator duties
- Manage the movement of removable storage media (optical and tape) between levels of storage
- Label and insert removable storage media volumes into the SM
- Interpret and respond to SM generated operator messages
- Power up and power down SM hardware components
