FileTek and the Met. Office Win "Process Innovation Award" - Massive Database Implementation at the U.K. Weather Service Honored

Rockville, MD (August 6, 2001)- FileTek, Inc., a data storage and access management solutions provider, and the Met. Office, the weather service of the United Kingdom, today announced that together they won Kinetic Information’s 2001 “Process Innovation Award” in the Government category. The award recognizes the Met. Office’s unique use of information technology to support global warming research. FileTek designed and implemented this technology at the Met Office’s headquarters in Bracknell, England.

Judging was performed by an independent panel of industry analysts for Kinetic Information, a research and professional services firm that provides business consulting on technology matters. The honor will be presented at the eSolutions World Conference and Expo on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Using FileTek’s StorHouse® software, the Met. Office is building a data repository to support scientists who create atmospheric computer models for weather forecasting and climate research. The repository is expected by to grow to over one petabyte (1,000,000,000,000,000s of bytes) by 2005.
