BellSouth Selects FileTek for Atomic Data Store- Software Company will provide CRM Retrieval Solution for Telecommunications Firm

Rockville, MD (May 1, 2000) – FileTek, Inc. announced today that BellSouth, Inc. has awarded it a contract to build an Atomic Data Store (ADS) using the company's StorHouse® software. This solution will support BellSouth's current Customer Relationship Management (CRM) capabilities by seamlessly extending the telecommunications company's IBM DB2 customer care/billing database with detailed, atomic data.

BellSouth will use FileTek's utility-based pricing model over the three-year contract, with the ADS expected to reach a size of between nine and 11 terabytes. StorHouse will control 57 months of data stored on tape, while the most recent twelve months' data will remain on the primary DB2 database. By bringing BellSouth's tape storage "on-line," FileTek's software will enable access to customer's historical information.

StorHouse is the only storage management system incorporating a relational database capability that allows direct access to rows stored across all storage media (e.g., tape, RAID, optical). FileTek designed StorHouse to manage terabytes to petabytes of enterprise-wide atomic or detailed data, enabling the storage and exploitation of exhaustive business information, such as: Internet clickstream detail data, telephone call details, market basket data, and financial transactions.

BellSouth's CRM capability, supported by StorHouse, will allow, for example, a customer support representative to supply DB2 with an account number over a broad range of months, which then will query all monthly tables covered by that range. StorHouse then selects a unique row for each time that account was billed during the months spanned and transfers it back to DB2. This data transfer is accomplished transparently without first passing data back to disk for retrieval. StorHouse also requires no changes be made to BellSouth's existing data because it uses their current table structures.

"We're making historical billing information available with no procedural changes to the users," said Keith Lawrence, Bell South's Senior Director in its billing organization.

"This CRM project at BellSouth is an outstanding example of how StorHouse can access and manage years of detailed data in a cost-effective manner," said Rob Simonds, FileTek's Vice President of Marketing. "StorHouse protects BellSouth's investment in existing applications and extends its access to years of customer information."

StorHouse is directly available from FileTek. Please contact the company for further information and pricing.
